Pursuit of Knowledge 2017

This week, Worksop College welcomed the Pursuit of Knowledge – a two-day event of workshops, discussion groups, and projects centred on the concept of philosophy.

After arrival and lunch, Professor Simon Blackburn held a lecture on ‘Hume’s Message to the Humanists’, which was followed by a discussion group.

After a short break, Philosophy Lecturer, Komarine Romdenh Romluc led a discussion on ‘Habit’.

The day ended with a Philosothon ideas search and a poster competition, which gave participating schools the chance to direct their own philosophical project.

Day two began with a workshop, organised by award-winning outreach project – ‘Philosophy in the City’, which is run entirely by student volunteers from the University of Sheffield’s Philosophy department.

Late morning saw Green Party member and former leader, Natalie Bennett present a compelling talk on ‘Economic and Environmental Justice’.

Natalie Bennett said:

“Great questions and discussion – thanks all!”

The day concluded with a lecture from philosopher and author, Steven Makin on ’Zeno on Running and Chopping’.
