At Worksop College, we’ve always believed that education goes far beyond the classroom. It’s about the relationships you build, the experiences that shape you, and the doors that open when you’re part of a lifelong community. With a history that dates back to 1895, the Old Worksopian network spans the globe and touches every industry imaginable. Whether your passion lies in finance, the arts, sport, science, or tech, chances are there’s an OW out there already making waves – and ready to share their wisdom.

One recent leaver who made the most of this incredible network is Archie Sims.

Reaching Out, Looking Ahead

After leaving Worksop College, Archie secured a coveted role as a FICC & Equities Degree Apprentice at Goldman Sachs, working on the High Touch CEEMEA Equity Sales-trading desk and covering institutional and hedge fund clients. It’s a competitive field, and Archie’s success was the result of hard work, dedication, and the power of the Old Worksopian network.

“While I was still at Worksop, I contacted a myriad of OWs on LinkedIn,” Archie explains. “I was looking for insights into the industry and general advice around the application process.”

One of those connections was Jack McFerran, an Old Worksopian already working in the finance world. The conversations they shared gave Archie valuable insider knowledge and the confidence to move forward.

“Talking to Jack and other OWs helped me understand the industry better – everything from what to expect to top tips for interviews,” he says.

More Than Just a Network

For Archie, what made the Old Worksopian network so powerful wasn’t just the access to professionals in high places – it was the shared identity.

“It gave me a touch point – a connection that we both held in common. Having Worksop in our backgrounds made conversations easier and more natural. From there, I could learn so much.”

Advice for the Next Generation

Archie’s message to current pupils – especially those thinking about degree apprenticeships or breaking into competitive fields – is clear:

Network, network, network. Make the most of the people who’ve been in your shoes. Don’t be afraid to reach out.”

Giving Back

Now firmly established in his career, Archie is committed to staying connected with Worksop College and supporting future pupils in the same way.

“I absolutely plan to stay connected and help current and future pupils in any way I can.”

At Worksop College, our community doesn’t end at Year 13 – it’s just the beginning. Whether you're a pupil, parent, or Old Worksopian, you're part of something bigger. And stories like Archie’s are a reminder of the strength, reach, and generosity of the OW network.
