Worksop College is celebrating an outstanding set of GCSE results, with the school recording its strongest performance in years across a number of key measures, including the number of grade 9s awarded, the proportion of grades at 9-5 and the value added achieved by pupils.
The number of grades awarded at grade 9, grades 9-6 and grades 9-5 broke College records, and far exceed national averages – over double for grade 9s. The school’s value-added measure – reflecting the progress pupils make from their starting points – was also the best on record. For the third year in a row, 100% of pupils achieved grades 9-4 in English.
Among those celebrating was Sophia, who achieved an exceptional nine grade 9s, an 8 and an A. A member of the school's First Team Netball squad and Combined Cadet Force, Sophia has balanced her academic studies with a busy programme of sport and co-curricular activities, taking full advantage of the breadth of interests encouraged at Worksop College. She looks forward to joining the Sixth Form at Worksop College to study French, Physics, Maths and Further Maths.

Elliott also achieved an outstanding six grade 9s and four 8s, while Isabella achieved five grade 9s, two A*s and two 8s. Sam’s achievements of five grade 9s alongside a further A*, two 8s and three 7s are particularly impressive given he joined the School at the start of Year 11 due to the unfortunate closure of his school. Sam is now looking forward to starting his A Levels at the School in September.

Harry achieved an outstanding five grade 9s, an A*, two 8s and three 7s, while also maintaining a significant commitment to cricket. He has represented Nottinghamshire U16s and the School’s First XI, and helped Cuckney Cricket Club’s Second XI reach the National Village Cup Final at Lord’s. Balancing academic achievement with cricket at this level is a testament to Harry’s hard work and determination, as well as the support and flexibility available to pupils at Worksop College.
Bella has similarly balanced academic success with her sporting ambitions. She achieved two grade 9s, four 8s, an A, a 7 and a 6, alongside her commitments as a member of the Worksop College First Team Netball squad and Lincolnshire U18s cricket team.

For Worksop College, however, GCSE success is not simply about the highest grades. The school places a strong emphasis on helping pupils make progress from their individual starting points, with this year's results showing significant achievement across the cohort.
In achieving a string of top grades, Isobel, for example, achieved almost 3 grades above her baseline grades, while Daisy exceeded her predicted performance by two grades. Daisy's result in Art was particularly special as she joined Worksop College on a fully funded Art Scholarship. Having embraced every opportunity available to her, Daisy achieved a grade 9 in Art, demonstrating what can happen when talent, opportunity and determination come together.

George has combined his academic studies with a highly successful year in golf. At just 15, he competed in the U18 England Championships and finished an impressive third – no mean feat at his age. A regular user of Worksop College's 18-hole golf course, George has benefited from coaching from the school's golf professional alongside his academic studies.
Grace is another pupil balancing academic achievement with sporting ambition. A member of the Worksop College Girls Football Academy, Grace achieved a number of top 8 and 9 grades and will continue into the Sixth Form, where the Academy offers a bespoke combination of football training and education. Alongside traditional A Levels, pupils can access vocational qualifications and a structured training programme, supported by specialist coaches and links with professional clubs.
Worksop College also offers Triple Science – Biology, Chemistry and Physics – as separate GCSEs, giving pupils greater curriculum time in each subject and allowing for deeper study, more practical investigation and a strong foundation for future study. This year, 25% of pupils taking Triple Science achieved grade 9s in all three sciences, highlighting the strength of the school's science provision.
For Natasha, who has been a full boarder at Worksop College since Year 7, today's results mark another important milestone in her time at the College. She will continue to board through her A Level studies.
Headmaster Charles Bailey said: “These results are a wonderful reflection of the hard work, ambition and determination of our pupils, supported by their teachers and families.
“What is particularly pleasing is the strength of the results across the cohort. While we are delighted to celebrate those achieving exceptional grades, we are equally proud of the pupils who have made significant progress from their individual starting points.
“These results demonstrate the academic ambition we have at Worksop College, alongside our commitment to knowing each pupil as an individual and giving them the opportunities and support they need to thrive.”
For the pupils celebrating today, these results represent more than a set of grades. They are a reflection of the progress they have made, the opportunities they have embraced and the foundations they have built for what comes next.
