Ebony Broughton - Scholarship Case Study

Year 7 student Ebony Broughton gives us her view on what it is like to be a Worksop College Music Scholar.

Being a music scholar at Worksop College is such good fun. I feel very lucky to have been given the opportunity to spend so much of my school week doing what I love, it really doesn’t feel difficult at all!

The application process was quite long and the auditions were nerve-wracking, but I got to spend mornings and whole days at the school to prepare and meet the Headmaster and lots of new people and that was exciting. It was definitely worth the wait to find out that I had been selected as a scholar.

My music is everything to me and I get to do so many practices and shows. The whole experience so far has been amazing and I am learning new skills every day.

Ebony broughton, year 7

I love music, it is my whole life! But I also enjoy History and Geography and love writing stories in English. I have made some great dishes in Food and Nutrition too.

I attend theory lessons as part of my music scholarship and have trumpet, piano and voice lessons throughout the week. I am also in the VOX choir and the Chapel Choir which I just love.

I play the trumpet in Bert's Jazz Band, directed by Mr Richards after lessons on a Friday and play in the Welbeck brass training band out of school too.

I have also discovered that I am quite good at playing hockey, something that I never knew until I came to Worksop College.

Offered from Year 7 onwards, our scholarships programme recognises gifted pupils who show significant talent across Academia, Sport, Music or Art.
