Meet our Senior Leadership Team - Mr. Halsall

Our TES Independent schools' awards nominated Senior Leadership Team is made up of experienced teachers and qualified professionals from a range of different sectors and industries.

Meet Tim Halsall, Deputy Head at Worksop College...

I was educated at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Blackburn, before attending Durham University where I completed a Combined Honours (Arts). I did my PGCE in English and Drama, before taking up my first post at an independant Day school in Liverpool.

I then moved to Bristol, where I completed a Master’s degree in Education Management while teaching at Clifton College. I was also an Assistant Housemaster, in charge of school productions, head of the Easter Revision Course and Senior Tutor for Y9-11.

I arrived at Worksop College, fresh-faced and energetic, in 2004. People used to tell me they thought I was a Sixth Former. Four kids and lots of grey hair means that happens less frequently now. I worked as the Housemaster of Portland (when it was a senior boys’ House) before joining the Senior team.

I've held numerous positions of responsibility on both the academic and the pastoral side of school, so I have a really good view of all aspects of the school. I always wanted to be a teacher and the great thing is that I still love my work in the classroom.

We want to get to know you better - quick-fire questions

First job after finishing school?

I worked as a waiter and barman while I was in the Sixth Form and in university holidays. So here’s some advice: never upset your waiter! Otherwise, I went straight into teaching.

Who would play you in a movie?

Ha! Someone desperate for work? Chandler from ‘Friends’? The pupils would say Jeremy Kyle!

Something you can’t live without?

I’m supposed to say my wife and kids, right? Sleep? They prefer me then, too. And I may have mentioned I’d really like a dog… Good books.

Hobbies and interests?

Music and theatre, holidays in France with the family. If I was very rich, cars. Gardening is creeping up on me – it’s an age thing. Radio 2.
