A great school with lots of happy memories, where I made some life-long friends - one of whom is still my best friend today. I am now Godfather to his daughter, and we keep in touch regularly, meeting up at least twice a year.
Some of my stories and antics may not be repeatable, as sometimes - as you do - one tries to beat the system!
The teaching staff were generally great, and I had my favourites - those I could really talk to. My Housemaster was Neil Symons, who was a truly lovely man: very understanding and kind. As I was a long way from my home in Norfolk, I would sometimes get homesick and miss my mum and dad; however, I believe we were allowed to make a phone call home once a week, as well as exchange letters.
I was not academic, nor good at or interested in sports, and I hated the “Dorm Run” - I couldn’t see the point or the purpose! The CCF was sometimes fun, but I disliked the discipline; however, I now appreciate the character-building qualities it provided.
I have visited the school many times since and joined the Worksop School Masonic Lodge, which I highly commend. I am now 70 years of age and in fair health. I keep fit and sometimes wish I could re-live my school days!
