Our U16's Rugby team come runner-up in the RGS Newcastle tournament

Our U16’s Rugby team got the 7’s season off to a great start on Saturday finishing runners-up at the RGS Newcastle tournament, competing against some of the biggest and best schools in Northern England.

The boys lost their first group match against Sedbergh but then won five straight games, beating Barnard Castle, St. Peter’s York, NSB, Stonyhurst and then Durham in the semi-final, showing great resilience in coming back from 17-0 down at half-time to win 22-17 in extra time. This set up a rematch against Sedbergh in the final who proved worthy winners.

The boys made great progress throughout the day and can look forward to the rest of the season.

Alongside Head of Rugby, Mr. Baker and Head of History, Mr. Axelby on the sideline cheering the boys on was OW Derek Turk (Talbot 1951-53), a member of the same rugby club as Mr. Axelby.

OW, Derek Turk speaking with the U16's during a break

Derek was very impressed with the boys' play and shared some of his experiences at Worksop with the boys during a break in play - such as the open-air swimming pool which was used in all weather!

Well done boys!
